Naturopathy involves a tailor-made treatment for each individual. It is about preventing and treating disease, maintaining optimal health and promoting a person’s self-healing process through “vis medicatrix naturae” (the healing power of nature).
Treatment generally will incorporate nutrition and lifestyle recommendations as well as natural supplements where needed. The aim is always to identify and treat the root cause not just mask the symptoms. In some cases testing may be used to help with this, as well as to track progress.
What to bring to a naturopathic appointment?
If possible please bring a pre-recorded food diary, a recent blood test, current supplementation and prescribed medications.
The initial consult usually takes 1 hour 15 mins. During this appointment we will take time to find out who you are, what your basic day to day activities are, what your work load is and learn about your diet. You will be asked many questions around your current issues to get an accurate picture of you and your health.
After the consult, your naturopath will devise a personalised treatment plan for you.
A follow-up appointment to go through and explain your treatment plan and get you started will be required. Please allow 45 mins for this appointment.
What can naturopathy help with?
Troubled skin is often due to an upset digestive system or possible hormonal imbalance, insulin dysregulation, inefficient liver detoxification and stress. By treating these factors we see positive results in clinic.
For example rosacea is inflammation, and the redness is definitely due to an inflammatory process in the body. Often red skin on the face is due to dilated blood vessels and inflammation. This usually indicates that the gut needs to be healed so that the inflammation can be resolved.
Common symptoms are:
Frequent constipation/diarrhoea or both
These are often caused by IBS, parasite infection, food intolerance, candida or a possible chronic digestive disorder. A healthy digestive system is a foundation for a healthy body and mind. With my support, you can restore and heal your gut through good nutrition and naturopathic medicine.
Signs of possible hormonal imbalance:
Irregular or heavy menstruation
Hot flushes, night sweats
Acne and rosacea
Anxiety and stress
Increased sensitivity to cold or heat
Fine, brittle or thinning hair
Excessive hair growth, hirsutism
Pain during sex
If any of these apply, you may have a hormonal imbalance. In most cases, we would work together for over three months (3 x menstrual cycles) to properly address the cause.
Hormonal imbalances treated include:
Mood irregularities including PMS and PMDD
Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS)
Absent periods, painful periods and heavy periods
Fertility & Conception Care
Trying to get pregnant can be a rollercoaster of emotions and your journey may be taking longer than you expected. As a naturopath, I specialise in identifying the underlying causes of your fertility problems. With well-guided support, I have seen couples conceive by addressing hormonal imbalances, good nutrition, specified supplementation and lifestyle advice. Optimal preconception care will set you up for a healthy pregnancy.
We use a range of modern scientific functional tests these include genetic tests, hormone assessments (DUTCH), stool analysis and organic acids which give a deeper insight into metabolism, intestinal health, detoxification capabilities and toxic exposures.
